I was finally allowed access to Google Wave last week; but did not get any invitations to forward my friends -hence I started a public wave with other people expressing their gWave loneliness on twitter …the resulting beast is included below, thanks to the wavr wordpress plugin.

Like all foreigners visiting Siena for the palio horse-race, and despite my 4 years living in Siena, I keep getting confused about the contrade territories.
Many times I tried searching the internet for this and could not find any clear mappings of the contrade, so, while the original 1729 document establishing the boundaries might be interesting for historians (both for the ancient italian language and the many changes in Siena’s urban planning) here’s my little ‘Google Earth ready’ KML contribution to help visitors in orienteering around and get more involved in the palio race itself, with a clear georeferenced mind-map of the contendants.
The file, still under ‘heavy’ (?) development, was build by translating in latitude, longitude coordinates a sketch I found in a local leaflet, so excuse any approximations; icons are from http://www.ilpalio.org/ and http://www.paliodisiena.biz/; you can search for your hotel or any address in Siena with GoogleEarth’s search box and see in which of the contrade that location actually is.
Graphical charts with the historic wins stats of each of the contrade will soon appear in the pop-up infoboxes; a google Maps porting of the same KML file is also being developed, but still needs major fixes both at the javascript and the layout (css), take a look anyhow: the ‘Palio di Siena’ on google Maps: Contrade.
Hopefully I’ll be able to find some time to finish this stuff in time for the 2009 palio events: july 2nd, august 16th – see you aruond in Piazza del Campo!
INGV Bologna reformats the feed from the Centro Nazionale Terremoti; republishes it and forwards it to Twitter, Facebook and as a daily digest Email newsletter.
The page had been created in order to give the scientific content released from the institute a better SEO ranking, since the original pages just don’t appear on any of the most frequent searches performed by users (As reported from GoogleInsight).
After the recent Aquila-Abruzzo earthquake: most people in Italy searched for ‘terremoto oggi’ (earthquake today) and ‘ansa terremoto’ (ansa is the major press agency in italy) .
This post tries to add a little SEO ranking for the major keywords with properly named in-bound links:
Terremoto oggi – lista ultimi terremoti (italian).
Latest Italian earthquakes (english).
It’s very easy to miss updates in twitter due to the amount of stuff that keeps coming in; and it is just a pain to read your friends’ random jokes, your colleagues rants and world news all intermixed in a single stream.
People keep bragging about this and Facebook (not Twitter) did listen and reacted! but there’s a very Zen ‘act-without-doing’ solution, you don’t need to install an extra twitter client, nor to share your twitter password with yet another site; actually you don’t even need to have a Twitter account, nor to follow people explicitly!
Just notice that each user page (http://twitter.com/username) generates an rss feed, then:
- Aggregate users rss’ in groups/labels as you like in your preferred rss reader
- done! click your personal labels and read threaded twitter discussions
Bonus: this also works with the feeds created by twitterSearch (i.e. keywords monitoring), with other users’ favourites pages and on and on.
