Wish you could kill windows in Exposè ?

Why o why we cannot kill windows while shrinking them with Exposè ??!
The all-in-one view is just the perfect, most natural UI for performing clean-ups (it just feels like a shoot-them-all video-game to me), but Leopard still does not implement this, and adds a new source of potential mess instead (Spaces).
Exposè, the Dock (plus stacks), Spaces and Spotlight are all about ‘reaching things’, but they just don’t fit with each other, it seems to me that Mac OS is evolving into a set of diverging tools, the user first have to figure out which one is the best for the current task, then to remember tool-specific shortcuts and tricks …stressful!

QuickSilver and Witch (both freeware) implement fundamental UI design principles much better, and can be way more effective on this particular task.

Creating semantic-rich PDFs on MAC OS X

Did you just waste half-day figuring out how to export your .doc headings into .pdf bookmarks despite the linearity of the process as described in both MS Word and Acrobat Pro ‘help’ sections? me too!Worry not: NeoOffice (2.2.something) does it right! with all kinds of options clearly configurable in the print dialog. This is an important usability feature for any pdf document longer than 3 pages.NeoOffice Export to Pdf dialog windowAccessibility notice: the document structure also gets exported automatically into pdf ‘tags’, which are the items screen-readers use to let users navigate the document. This had been the first case of real-word open-source nirvana for me!

Integration with Apple’s own .mac online services has been enhanced and heavily publicized in Steve’s keynote; exporting pictures from iPhoto and sharing them with friends is a snap; album previews, slideshows and carousel viewing in full web2.0 ajaxified style, making you almost feel like dropping your flickr account and… wait a second: where are tags ?!?!
